PitchingMagic
Fastpitch Softball Chisago City, MN

When the first version of this website was published there was not a lot of guidance on pitching technique on the web, and much of what was there was really bad information. Also there were very few local instructors and many of those were simply teaching what they had learned years before often taught by someone who had similarly learned years earlier. But as slow motion video became widely available pitching coaches could "substitute fact for impression" (Ruskin) and take a good look how great pitchers actually pitched. The performance level of pitchers has improved greatly as correct technique started being widely taught to beginners, and lessons learned early last a long time.

There are a lot of very good options for getting instruction (and unfortunately some bad ones as well) available today. But parents may not be willing to invest the time and expense for private lessons or clinics at least until their daughter shows a continued interest in being committed to learning pitching. Scrounging the web for help can be useful but a haphazard collection of pitching drills might not work out. PitchingMagic can help fill that need by showing a comprehensive instruction model.

In the list below the first two entries were made prior to rule changes regarding the start back (or step back) and leaping. As such many of the videos and commentary contain outdated information with demonstrations keeping both feet on the pitching plate and also the drag foot not coming off the ground.
