2022 FLAFA Winter Pitching Clinic
Lesson 2
Lesson 2 is a repeat of lesson 1 except using a ball. Prior to using a ball in the steps in lesson 1 comes the grip and release of the ball. The fingers are the last thing to touch the ball before it goes hurling towards the target. Learning how to control and train the fingers is critical once the pitchers advance beyond the beginners stage and learning that discipline early helps set up the students for long term success.
The first pitch taught is the 4 seam fastball and that requires both the correct orientation of the spin on the ball and having a great deal of spin. 10U and 12U pitchers who incorporate this will have their fastball drop more than just gravity. This results in the batters not being able to track the ball well to make solid contact.

The drills above demonstrate all of the concepts in lesson 2. My website, pitchngmagic.com describes these concepts in great detail in both video and text manner. Note that the website was made before the pitching rules changed to allow the stride foot to start behind the pitching plate instead of in contact with it.
